The motif depicted along the hem is a kōbako — a lidded box used to store precious incense wood and fragrant materials.
Kōbako were traditionally used in tea ceremonies and religious rituals, and were also part of the bridal trousseau of wealthy families.The beautifully embroidered kōbako, so delicate that it almost seems to release a gentle fragrance, is truly captivating.
The embroidery gives the design a subtle three-dimensional quality, while remaining minimal and quietly exotic.This kimono features a deep, beautiful Japanese black. However, due to the passage of time, there are visible signs of aging, including some areas of fading.
