Komainu are mythical lion- or dog-like guardian creatures traditionally placed in pairs at the entrances of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, or in front of sacred buildings.
They symbolize protection, guarding sacred places and warding off evil spirits and negative energy.
Made from tsumugi fabric, this piece is very lightweight yet durable.
It is estimated to be around 40–50 years old and has some minor fraying due to its age.
You may notice the slightly uneven, textured surface characteristic of tsumugi weaving. This is a natural feature of the fabric, not damage.
Due to its age, there are some stains and signs of wear.
With its powerful and striking design, this haori can be enjoyed not only as wearable art, but also as an elegant decorative piece for your home.
As this is a vintage item, please note that it may show signs of age, including stains, pulls, and other minor imperfections. Thank you for understanding that this is not a new item.
