Vintage Color Haori - Red E-gasumi -

Very popular shibori (tie-dye). Shibori is a traditional dyeing technique known for its unique texture—three-dimensional, soft to the touch, lightweight, and comfortable to wear.

Each of the tiny dots is proof of the artisan’s handwork—each one carefully tied with thread. When the fabric is soaked in red dye, the tied parts resist the dye, creating intricate patterns.

This delicate process of hand-tying each dot is now carried out by only a few remaining artisans, making shibori an extremely rare and valuable technique today.

The pattern depicted is e-gasumi (“picture mist”), a stylized design of mist, an element with no fixed shape, expressed through a uniquely Japanese aesthetic. It is one of the most popular and essential motifs in kimono design.

There are some vintage stains and damage due to age, but these only enhance the charm unique to shibori. This is a highly recommended and rare piece.
