An exceptionally rare black haori has arrived.
Even for me, this is the first time I have encountered such a special piece.
Hand-painted on its noble black silk are tulips —
the iconic flower of the Netherlands.
Blooming quietly against the deep black background,
the tulips embody both elegance and boldness,
captivating the eye at first glance.
During Japan’s long period of national isolation,
the Netherlands was the only Western country
with which Japan maintained trade and cultural exchange.
With this history in mind,
the tulips painted on this haori feel like more than just flowers —
they seem to symbolize friendship and mutual respect.
A truly remarkable piece
that gently connects Japan and the Netherlands.
The condition is very good, with no noticeable stains or damage.
