[ Product Description ]

A highly valuable antique kuro-tomesode has arrived.

Kuro-tomesode is the highest formal kimono for married women, intended for formal occasions, so this type of kimono often showcases condensed craftsmanship and highly refined artistic design.

This kuro-tomesode is a remarkable antique masterpiece with stunning embroidery of exceptional beauty. The raised, richly layered embroidery is truly stunning.

The motif appears to be a phoenix. The phoenix, derived from a legendary sacred bird in Chinese tradition, is a highly auspicious motif symbolizing peace, prosperity, nobility, immortality, marital harmony, and protection from evil. It is said to appear in times of great peace and is believed to bring happiness and good fortune.

Based on the condition of the fabric and the fading of the colors, this piece is thought to date from the 1960s.

It appears to be a five-crested kimono, and the family crest seems to be Chigai Taka no Ha (“crossed hawk feathers”).

With its pattern placement in the Edo-tsuma style and its matching hiyoku-style lining / tomohakkake, this is a truly rare kuro-tomesode.

Considering its age, it remains in relatively good condition, and for a kimono over 60 years old, it is in respectable vintage condition. However, there is fading, fraying, and staining throughout, so those who are sensitive to such signs of age should refrain from purchasing.

Its beautiful embroidery and overall design also make it highly recommended as an interior display piece.
