type

This is a Hagoita, a traditional Japanese New Year decoration.

Originally, hagoita were used for a New Year’s game called Hanetsuki, but over time they evolved into ornamental art pieces, especially to celebrate beauty, protection, and good fortune.

This type is called an “Oshie Hagoita”, featuring a three-dimensional figure made with fabric, embroidery, silk cords, and gold details.
Each piece is carefully handcrafted, often using vintage kimono textiles.

These decorative Hagoita were especially popular in Japan from the late Edo period to the mid-20th century.
Today, only a few artisans still make them, making vintage pieces like this increasingly rare.

Based on the materials and construction, this Hagoita is likely from the late Showa to early Heisei period (around the 1970s–1990s), when traditional techniques were combined with modern materials.

Only two pieces available.
Each Hagoita is unique and cannot be reproduced.

✨ Meaning & Symbolism

  • Celebrate feminine beauty and graceful growth

They were traditionally gifted to families with daughters, making them a powerful symbol of care and blessing.

🏡 For European Interiors
