[ Product Description ]
This is a very rare komon kimono.
At first glance, it features an all-over scenic design — flowing clouds and echoes of ancient nature.
However, the entire landscape is rendered in the Edo Komon technique.
Edo Komon is a traditional stencil-dyeing method that dates back to the Edo period, using Ise katagami (hand-carved paper stencils).
It is characterized by extremely fine, single-color patterns dyed with remarkable precision.
So delicate that from a distance, the kimono can appear almost solid in color, this technique is said to reflect the Edo aesthetic of refined “iki” — understated elegance.
The countless tiny dots create a subtle three-dimensional effect.
The white dots gently soften the red background, and when viewed from afar, the overall tone appears almost pink — a fascinating optical charm unique to this piece.
